Data Visualizations Unit 2 Lesson 10

What are the benefits of visualizing data?
-The information you are trying to convey can be shown to your target audience easier, and in a way that is more aesthetically pleasing.
Can we characterize common mistakes in visualizations to which we gave low ratings?
-Yes. Most visualizations that got low ratings are either cluttered, with too much information, or don't have enough information, so that the visualization is difficult to understand
Can we characterize common strengths in effective visualizations?
-Yes. Most visualization that got high ratings were easy to understand, and effective in conveying a message to the audience easily. They were also aesthetically pleasing.
Not all visualizations were charts; what other types are there?
-There were also pie graphs, and many other various types of graphs. Information was represented differently amongst different charts.
As you embark on making your own visualization, what do you want to keep in mind so that you can avoid rookie mistakes?
-I want to avoid putting too little or too much information, and I want to avoid making my visualization too complicated. Keeping it simple so the information can be interpreted well is the best course of action when making a visualization.

Describe the visualization so the reader knows which one you are talking about (example: "Collection #2 -- Average divorce rates in America")
The visualization that was the best was visualization #6 "What are the odds?". This visualization showed a statistics page about the chances of things happening, such as the chances of a hole in one, a lightning strike, a lottery win, or a shark attack. The visualization then showed you that the chances of winning an iPad through a contest were much better than any of the other events occurring.
Say whether this was the best or worst visualization for you and and why. Justify your opinion by citing principles of visualizations that you have learned about. Use the visualization 101 guide as a resource.
This visualization was one of the best for me, since it was not cluttered, was ascetically pleasing, and did a very good job of convincing the reader to enter into the contest.
