Homework Day 3: Computing Innovations

Select an innovation. It can be anything.Describe the positive and negative impacts it has had on the world. (A satisfactory answer reflects awareness and analysis of the effects on populations beyond the students’ immediately locale.)

One innovation that changed the way we go about our days today is the mobile phone. This invention is innovative because something that nearly everybody has today is a mobile phone. Several positive effects that the mobile phone has had on today’s society include convenience, as sophisticated mobile phones contain ways to keep your personal information close at hand, and social aspects, as you can communicate with your friends via your mobile phone.  While there are positives to the mobile phone, there are also negatives as well. The mobile phone can be distracting, and all the features it has can stop you from being productive and diligent while the phone is within reach. Another negative of the mobile phone is the expenses associated with it. Across the world, the mobile phone is something becoming more of a need, and less of a want, for people. This is not good because of the high expenses associated with the mobile phone. The phone costs money up front, and then costs money monthly. The phone may cause people to spend money on it, instead of spending money on more important things to them such as food or shelter.

Speculate on how students 25 years from now will answer, "What computing innovation has had a significant impact on your life?" (A satisfactory answer includes a non-trivial consideration of how technology will likely change from, and perhaps build upon, what is currently available)

Just as innovations from today build on the past, in 25 years the same principle will be happening. Computers that were seen as compact and fast 25 years in the past are today seen as bulky, basic and slow. Students 25 years in the future will be living in a technology-rich world, with devices such as computers, mobile phones, and cars becoming even more technologically advanced. As compact and fast as computers and mobile phones are today, they will get even more compact and even more fast. And cars will become even safer than they are today. If I was a student 25 years from now, I would look at the technology that I use the most. Currently, the technology that I use the most is my mobile phone. I think that this mobile phone will still be the most innovative and significant part of my life in 25 years, since there are so many ways to improve and enhance the physical and technological parts of a mobile phone.

Now think about your parent or an adult in your life and answer the following question based on what you think they would answer (You can also ask an adult this question in your life)"What computing innovation has had the most significant personal impact on your life?“

I think that my parents would say that the most innovative computing system would be the laptop computer. This is because, ever since I have remembered, my parents have used laptops for work and for pleasure. Since they have used these computing systems for so long, they will think about how it has improved their lives and made them better.
